Deciding how long to book is hard. Plan at least seven nights in Turkey after a tummy tuck. ISAPS advises patients to remain in the area where their surgery took place for at least one week, depending on the procedure [1]. Our plans are built around one hospital night and six hotel nights; your surgeon confirms when you fly.
How long to stay in Turkey after a tummy tuck?
For a tummy tuck in Istanbul, most patients plan at least seven nights, plus one or two spare days in case the surgeon wants another check. ISAPS, the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, says patients should stay where the surgery was performed for at least one week, depending on the procedure [1]. Our Tummy Tuck plans can include one night in hospital with full medical monitoring, then six nights in a 5-star hotel with daily breakfast. You spend the first night under medical watch and the rest of the week resting at the hotel.
A tummy tuck, also called abdominoplasty, removes loose skin and fat from the tummy. In a partial abdominoplasty, the surgeon makes a large cut (incision) across the lower tummy and separates the skin from the abdominal wall below the belly button [2]. If your surgeon plans a wider operation or combines several procedures, you may need more time in Istanbul. Your surgeon sets the final date.
- Arrival dayAirport transfer, consultation and blood tests.
- Surgery dayOne night in hospital with round-the-clock care.
- RecoverySix nights at the hotel, with check-ups at the clinic.
- Spare daysBook a flexible return ticket so you can stay longer if your surgeon asks.
Why do surgeons ask you to stay a week after abdominoplasty?
A week away from home can feel long. Surgeons ask abdominoplasty patients to stay about a week because the first days are when they most want to see you in person. Two issues explain most of that caution, and your surgeon also checks the wound before you travel. ISAPS also warns against travelling too soon after surgery [1].
- Fluid under the skin. A seroma is a pocket of fluid that collects under the skin. It's the most common complication of abdominoplasty, with an average incidence of 10% and a range of 5 to 43% across studies [3].
- Blood clots. Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a blood clot that forms in a vein.
- Wound checks. Your surgeon looks at the incision, the dressings and any drains (thin tubes that let fluid out) before deciding you're ready to travel.
Many patients worry about what happens if something goes wrong far from home. If you stay close to the clinic for that first week, your surgeon can see you the same day, in the same place, with a translator in the room.

What happens each day of your tummy tuck stay in Istanbul?
A tummy tuck stay in Istanbul follows a set order: arrival and tests, surgery and a hospital night, then recovery at the hotel with clinic visits. The timeline below is typical for a seven-night plan. Your clinic confirms the exact days once your surgery date is set.
- Day 1, arrival: a private driver meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel. You have your preoperative consultation with the surgeon and a full panel of blood tests.
- Day 2, surgery: the team takes you to the hospital. After the operation you spend one night under round-the-clock monitoring, with nurses and a translator on hand.
- Day 3, back to the hotel: a VIP transfer takes you to the hotel. You rest, take the medications provided and start short, gentle walks as your surgeon advises.
- Days 4 to 6, recovery: you return to the clinic for postoperative assessments. You also have two lymphatic massage sessions, a gentle massage that helps move fluid out of swollen tissue.
- Day 7, final check: your surgeon reviews the wound and tells you whether you're fit to fly.
- Day 8, flying home: a private transfer takes you to the airport for your departure.

When is it safe to fly home after a tummy tuck?
Most patients want to know their flight date before they book. Flying home after a tummy tuck is safe once your surgeon has checked the wound and confirmed you're fit to travel; for most patients, that's at the end of the first week. BAAPS, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, advises you to speak to your surgeon before finalising travel plans [4]. Book a ticket you can change, so you can stay longer if your surgeon asks.
The length of your trip home matters too. BAAPS cosmetic tourism guidelines note that a long-haul flight is normally defined as travel of over 6 hours, but evidence suggests a total travel time of around 4 hours already has an impact [5]. Count the whole trip, door to door, including airport waits and connections. If you're flying to Canada or the United States, your trip is longer than a flight to the United Kingdom, so share your full route with your surgeon.
Most surgeons give tummy tuck patients a short list for the flight:
- Wear your compression garment as instructed.
- Choose an aisle seat so you can stand and walk during the flight.
- Drink water and avoid alcohol.
- Move your ankles and calves while seated.
- Keep your medications and surgical notes in your hand luggage.
- Ask your surgeon whether you need extra measures to prevent blood clots.
How does follow-up work after you fly home?
Leaving your surgeon behind can feel unsettling. Once you're home, follow-up after a tummy tuck in Turkey continues remotely: you send photos and messages, and the clinic reviews your healing. Many clinics in Turkey offer video consultations, so your surgeon can see the wound and answer your questions on screen.
- Before you travel, tell your GP or family doctor about the operation and your dates.
- Bring home your discharge notes, operation summary and medication list.
- Send photos of the incision at the times your surgeon asks.
- Contact our 24/7 concierge line if swelling builds in one area, if the wound leaks or if you have a fever.
- Seek urgent local care for chest pain, breathlessness or a painful, swollen calf, then let us know.
Swelling takes time to settle, and the final shape of your tummy appears gradually. Results vary from one person to another. We work with 100+ doctors in our network, hold a 4.8 Google rating and stay in touch with you after your stay ends.
Write to our team with your questions about dates, flights and aftercare, and we'll answer them before you book anything.

Frequently asked questions
Can I fly home 5 days after a tummy tuck?

How many nights does the tummy tuck plan include?
Our tummy tuck plans can include one night in hospital and six nights in a 5-star hotel with breakfast. We confirm the exact inclusions for your plan when you receive your quote.
Is it safe to fly long haul to Canada or the US after abdominoplasty?
Your surgeon decides when you can fly long haul after abdominoplasty. BAAPS guidelines note that evidence suggests a total travel time of around 4 hours already has an impact [5]. Share your full route with your surgeon so they can advise you on compression and clot prevention.
What if I get a seroma after I am home?
A seroma is a pocket of fluid under the skin and the most common complication of abdominoplasty [3]. If you notice swelling building in one area, contact our concierge line and your local doctor. Your surgeon can review your photos and advise you on the next step.
Can I combine a tummy tuck with breast surgery and keep the same stay?
Combined plans exist, such as abdominoplasty with 360 liposuction and a Breast Lift. A larger operation may need a longer stay. Your surgeon tells you how many nights your combined plan requires.
Can I go sightseeing while I recover in Turkey?
Your surgeon may encourage short walks near your hotel. Save day trips to Cappadocia, Pamukkale or Antalya and visits to thermal spas for a later visit. Your surgeon tells you when bathing and travel inside Turkey are safe for you.
